Track 15, Coming Right Up!
Posted by Sally Hendrick on Jan 29th 2025
Track 15, a long-anticipated food hall in Providence, Rhode Island, is set to open in March 2025 after facing delays due to the pandemic, supply chain issues, and structural challenges. Located in a historic transportation hub dating back to 1898, the $25 million project aims to revitalize the space with a vibrant mix of seven chef-driven food concepts. The hall will feature a unique design inspired by train stations, with "flipboard" menus changing seasonally and indoor and outdoor seating for 600 guests.
Did someone say seating for 600 guests?
That's where Rail Yard Studios comes in. Robert got a call one day describing this project to be much like the TimeOut multi-vendor, eating spaces in Lisbon, Portugal and around the world. They wanted that rustic feel that Rail Yard offers, so they ordered 10 extra-long tables made from boxcar flooring for the table tops, steel railroad tracks as the legs, and a railroad tie bringing it all together.
A unique feature of these tables is the metal tray sandwiched between two boxcar floorboards. It's hollow underneath to help keep the weight of the top down. A generous coat of epoxy is poured over the top to fill in any holes or crevices, making for a smooth surface perfect for dining.
The table legs are steel railroad tracks lined up on their ends to hold up the tables. Plates and spikes finish off the look to be cohesive with the Rail Yard Studios brand, adding more to the railroad design that Track15 is going for.
