OTM Unnumbered - Steel Wall-Hanging Sculpture
Description
This solid steel sculpture crafted from drops of railroad materials captures railroad life in a nutshell. It's got a little of most things called OTM in railroad jargon:
- Spikes
- Rail
- Rail anchors
- Track bolts
- Nuts
- Washers
- Dome head drive spike
Railroad contracts often use OTM as a broad term to cover all the other material required to complete a job on the track. We commonly see terminology like "rail, joint bars, plates and OTM..." specified in track renovations and rebuilds.
The OTM wording is also used for cleanup of a railroad work site to specify the responsibility for all the scrap bits of steel often found in and around a track bed. If the cleanup contract mentions OTM, typically a magnet is going to be the fastest way to collect the wealth of scrap all about the rail-bed.
We craft these small metal sculptures from materials generated by our railroad construction company and our furniture making efforts out of Other Track Materials, also known as OTM in the railroad industry. Each one offers a glimpse of the quintessential elements familiar to most any railroaders or rail fan.
Seems much easier than saying, rail, plates, spikes, joint bars, nuts, bolts, washers, anchors, miscellaneous discarded switch stand parts, rail clamps, any rail drops or shorts, as well as any steel materials that may have fallen off of a car or any other various bits and pieces of ferrous material to be found in and around the track related to the operating of railroad.
Each piece is individually unique and designed by our artisans.
