Ladder Coffee Table

Reclaimed steel and wood from railcars become modern decor combined with historic preservation in this industrial style table. It's the perfect size for an office lobby or the living area in a home. The design fits that urban renewal space looking for authentic artifacts that become conversation starters in the room.

We created the Ladder Coffee Table from the basic elements of a decommissioned coal hopper capturing the very essence of the freight railroad.

We crafted the tabletop from crossties. As always, we used lumber that graded as seconds from the tie plant, so they are naturally creosote-free. These solid 2-inch thick sections provide a strong sturdy top filled with the character of the railroad. Portions of the wood possess that special shimmer of medullary rays that distinguish oak from other species. Along the edge, the incisor marks show where the tie was perforated as part of the treatment process before going into the creosote phase. But as we mentioned, these timbers never made it to that part of the process, and are naturally eco-friendly.
