Master Bridge Builder's Ballast Deck Desk Maple (No. 43)
Description
The quintessential railroad desk for the Industrial Modern office, our Ballast Deck desk brings all of the classic elements of the Industrial Age together - wood, steel and stone. For anyone interested in historic preservation, this desk represents a sure-fire conversation starter. Among railroad executives and tech entrepreneurs, this piece of furniture holds a place as one of our most popular pieces of office decor.
The massive wood timbers come from authentic crosstie stock - always creosote-free. The deep incisor marks and natural imperfections inherent in the wood give it unique and authentic character.
Topped with two sections of vintage rail, we cut the rail back at an angle on the ends to give this version more movement. We call that cut our Streamliner styling after famed Industrial Designer Raymond Loewy's locomotives.
We filled the tray with chunky pieces of granite ballast like the railroads use in their railbeds. The rough black and white veined stone is as durable as it is gorgeous.
A single artifact scavenged from the side of the tracks and nestled among the granite ballast completes the authentic look and feel.
