Monorail Desk

Our Monorail Desk makes for an impressive piece of furniture that doubles as a work of art. This gorgeous executive office centerpiece features a unique design with a single section of vintage steel beneath a desktop made from reclaimed hard maple boxcar flooring. 

The seven foot long by three foot deep (84" x 36") working surface provides ample room. While we've softened the heavy distress in the surface, its rich industrial and hand-crafted heritage is still evidenced in the original pockets where bolts attached the boards to the frame. Rather than hide those features, we embraced them in all of their imperfections. The distancing on the decades-old hand-drilled circular holes varies, making it a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture.

The circle theme continues in the legs crafted from sections of authentic railroad crosstie timbers.

As always, our wood is creosote-free - made from culls or seconds salvaged from tie manufacturers. Possessing imperfections of their own, the massive lumber comes to us before any treatment, so any coloring is strictly from our selection of low and -0- VOC stains and finishes.

A section of CARNEGIE rail dated to 1910 pays homage to the legendary tycoons and robber barons of the Industrial Age. Heavily pitted and worn, its original brand remains legible and details the exact month of manufacture as well as the foundry from which it came.

Dimmable LED lighting highlights the base of the desk providing a warm glow in a home office or for those late nights spent at work.
