Hobo Stool - Oak Top
Description
Our simple stool made from reclaimed boxcar flooring set atop a solid steel base.
If you cherish the romantic notion of hopping a freight train for a ride, this is the next best thing (and far safer). You can actually sit yourself on the flooring from a boxcar and dangle your feet off the edge as if you are taking in America from a line of boxcars following a chugging locomotive. So of course, we christened this one the Hobo Stool for its connection to the folks who illicitly ride the rails.
It's a basic, yet versatile design that works beautifully as a seat and also functions as a side table.
We reclaim the flooring from boxcars as they come out of service. The original tongue and groove construction of the flooring remains part of the edge of the seat to keep its connection to its heritage. We smoothed the seat surface down to reveal the original beauty of the hard maple from which they were made, leaving the holes from where they were attached to the frame of the car and the occasional minor scar marks from a hard service life.
Consistent in their sizing and fabrication, each possesses its own individually unique characteristics - blemishes from its service life, worn edges, bolt holes and other features.
And trust us, these offer a much higher degree of comfort and safety than taking your chances trying to board a freight train illegally.
